This is an amazing story. It is a wonderful illustration of how ignorance can create so much unnecessary violence and suffering. The idea of the scapegoat is very prominent. It’s so obvious in hindsight that the same people that decried the sacrifice of a human, seemed to crave that very act. How ridiculous!
This whole sequence of events was initiated by the disappearance of a boy who, from what I can tell, was never even found. I wonder if he just wanted to escape from the enslavement of this ignorant society. It’s a society where people don’t want to take responsibility. They’re looking for a God to save them from their own incidental suffering and if that’s not possible they find some sick relief in causing the suffering of another who they label as “responsible.”
