I sped this one up from what I originally recorded just for the hell of it because my recording software can do that. I’m surprised the vocals didn’t get distorted. In the song I was trying to address the idea that some sports are interesting to people in the very idea that someone might die. It’s a strange aspect of our culture. I think we just like to see people pushing the envelope because we know that life is more worth living if we’re taking risks and pushing our limits. Ayrton Senna, one of the two that died during this event said when encouraged by a friend to drop out after his colleague’s accident, “there are certain things over which we have no control. I cannot quit, I have to go on.” I guess that sums it up. We accept the fact that there are things over which we have no control but that does not mean we don’t continue to strive for excellence. In a certain sense we must let that ideal control us in the face of fear.
